Where do you get The Sims 2 in current times?!

I play using a digital copy of the Ultimate Collection. Previously the Sims 2 was an abandonware game, however in 2025, EA decided to release the “Legacy Collection”. So if you are interested in giving EA your money (I understand everyone has different comfort levels with tech and troubleshooting) then it is available directly through them. I do not feel comfortable currently sharing resources for alternate options due to the fact that EA has forced some versions of the Ultimate Collection download to be removed, so it seems greedy EA is taking action on any alternate options.

Something to note with the Legacy Collection: The Legacy Collection is not the same as the Ultimate Collection and some mods may not work for it (usually the issue is related to a different file names and file directory structure, so things like lighting mods could be an issue). Most creators have updated their mods for this new version, so just keep an eye out for any mention of “UC” (Ultimate Collection) vs. “LC” (Legacy Collection) in mods.

How do you get your game to function so smoothly?

There are a few things that could be the reason for what you are seeing:

  • I am always limiting and carefully organizing my CC (big fan of keeping things mostly Maxis) and this helps my loading times.
  • I have a decent custom PC (Specs are available at the bottom of the FAQ).
  • I use fixes such as Graphics Rules Maker and Sims 2 Launcher. (I highly suggest doing some searching YouTube for one of the hundreds of Sims 2 Performance guides out there).
  • I have made the jump to running my game on the Linux Mint Cinnamon OS. Check out a great video by TeaAddict on the topic here!

What specific ReShade filter are you using?

I use a filter that I made for myself, two versions can be downloaded here!
